In some ways, as you\u2019ll see below, it\u2019s been the most profitable sideline I\u2019ve ever had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who don\u2019t know, Amazon Vine is a programme run by <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3N04yFp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon<\/a> where they send products free of charge to selected individuals (known as \u2018Vine Voices\u2019) in exchange for reviewing them. You don\u2019t get paid for these reviews, but you do get to keep the item concerned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might imagine that the main thing reviewers get is books. It\u2019s true that these are on offer, but of course Amazon sell plenty of other things as well. In the time I\u2019ve been a Vine Voice I\u2019ve reviewed all the following\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>lawnmower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>saucepan set<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vacuum cleaners (three of them!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>air purifier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>clothes airer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hair-dryer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>back-massager<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>suitcases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cordless iron<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>microphone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bathroom bin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mobile phone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scotch whisky<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>tablet computer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and many more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s an example of a recent Vine review I submitted, so you can see how they look when published. This was for a solar-powered security light, and as you can see I included a photo as well. This isn\u2019t obligatory, but Amazon encourage reviewers to include photos and\/or videos where relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/xnRRvCJLi5rQbQj5XH14sGL_WhXay2uvB7GtIf3nwwzf1thxcO_8OCgPQyrcyUUJ9xK82NYSrwATB5GCBC0jIhGa5AbENRj_xSrWxikp6CV5cST-pGYYBOD62Nq7mBkKAkug8YWCCbKrnVq4rbyVoPI\" class=\"lazyload\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/review\/R1ERLCMSKGOBYR\/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Permalink to review on Amazon website<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most valuable item I have ever had as a Vine Voice was a \u00a31200 gaming laptop. Considering that I only had to write a couple of hundred words about it, that probably counts as my best-paid writing job ever!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rules for reviewers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Does being a Vine Voice have any drawbacks? Well, not really, but it does have certain rules you have to adhere to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For starters, you can\u2019t just pick anything to review. As a Vine Voice you get access to a dedicated web page where a range of products is set out and you can pick any you wish to review.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you might expect, there are limited stocks of review products, and popular ones tend to be snapped up quickly. So you have to get in the habit of checking what is available regularly, and act quickly when you see something you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another slight drawback is that you\u2019re not allowed to sell or otherwise dispose of third-party products you receive straight away. You have to keep them for at least six months, after which they officially become yours to do with as you wish. This doesn\u2019t apply to Amazon\u2019s own products, which become yours immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That being said, in ten years I have never been asked to return any product I was sent for review. But it could happen, and if you have disposed of it before six months are up, you could in theory lose your Vine Voice status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You have 30 days to review any products you order, and you are expected to review them all, whether you like them or not. In the latter case you should be as honest as possible about why you disliked the product, and try to mention any good points about it as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FInally, as a new VIne reviewer you are placed in what Amazon describe as the Silver Tier, where you can request up to three items per day of a maximum value of \u00a382. Experienced reviewers who meet the required standard are promoted to the Gold Tier and can then request up to eight items per day of any value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do you become a Vine Voice?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah, that\u2019s the $64,000 question, isn\u2019t it? I never actually applied to Amazon. I had reviewed a few products on the Amazon website \u2013 not a huge number, mainly books and music CDs. And out of the blue I received an email inviting me to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s the thing. You can\u2019t just submit an application to Amazon. It\u2019s invitation only, so you have to wait for the call to come. New reviewers are constantly being recruited, though, so you can boost your chances by regularly submitting reviews of Amazon products. Obviously you won\u2019t receive remuneration for these, but it\u2019s all good practice and effectively represents your letter of application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the risk of stating the obvious, you need to create high-quality reviews that gain good feedback and \u2018helpful\u2019 votes from customers.
